Cyclone Over Malacca Strait May Intensify; Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms Expected in Kerala From Today

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is likely to experience heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms from today, according to the latest weather forecast. Meteorologists report that easterly winds are strengthening over the Bay of Bengal and South India, which will increase rainfall activity across the central, southern, and parts of northern districts of the state.

A cyclonic circulation over the Malacca Strait is showing signs of intensifying into a deep low-pressure area, with the potential to develop into a severe cyclonic storm. Based on the current trajectory, weather conditions are expected to turn generally dry after November 25 and 26.


Yellow Alert Issued in Seven Districts

A yellow alert has been issued today in the districts of
Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, and Ernakulam.

The IMD has also warned of light rain at isolated locations in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, and Idukki within the next three hours.

  • November 22: Yellow alert for Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, and Idukki
  • November 23: Yellow alert for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, and Ernakulam

Isolated heavy rainfall (64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours) is expected during this period.
