Director Dinjith Ayyathan’s latest film Echo is off to an extraordinary start at the Kerala box office, witnessing a steep upward climb in collections over the weekend. The film marks Ayathan’s return after the critically acclaimed Kishkindha Kaandam, and is scripted by Bahul Ramesh, who also penned Kerala Crime Files Season 2. Young actor Sandeep Pradeep, fresh from the success of Patakalam, plays the lead role.
Echo started with a modest ₹80 lakh on its opening day. But strong word-of-mouth quickly turned things around: the film collected ₹1.85 crore on Day 2 and an impressive ₹3.15 crore on Sunday, almost tripling its previous day’s performance. With this surge, the film’s worldwide total has reached ₹6.35 crore, according to trade experts.
The film is also gaining attention as the concluding installment of Ayathan and Bahul Ramesh’s three-part “Animal Trilogy”, following Kishkindha Kaandam and Kerala Crime Files Season 2, both known for integrating animals into their narrative core. While the three projects are unrelated in plot, they share a thematic link—stories driven by animals and the moral dilemmas and crimes surrounding them.
Expectations for Echo were already high, thanks to Sandeep Pradeep’s return in a lead role and the film’s unique thematic premise. The weekend’s box office jump suggests that audiences are responding strongly to the film’s storytelling and atmosphere.
