Kochi: The President of the High Court Advocates Association has written a letter to the Chief Justice raising a series of serious allegations concerning judicial conduct and internal functioning. According to the letter, nearly 30 judges boycotted the Bar Association’s annual meeting collectively, triggering discussions among advocates about what they describe as “union-like behaviour” within the judiciary.

The letter also alleges that certain judges are directly interfering in the administrative matters of the Bar Association. It further points out concerns about close relatives of sitting judges practicing as lawyers in the High Court, including in cases before the same court, raising questions about potential conflicts of interest.
Another issue highlighted is that a judge continues to allow a law firm he previously worked with to use his name, which, according to the letter, undermines the credibility and neutrality expected from the judiciary.
Responding to the controversy, High Court Advocates Association Secretary Adv. M. R. Nandakumar clarified that the letter does not represent the collective stance of the association. He stated that the contents reflect the personal position of President Yeshwant Shenoy, and that no internal consultations were held within the association before the letter was sent.
