Sabarimala Pilgrims’ Vehicle Crashes Into Barrier in Kottayam; Five Injured, Major Tragedy Averted

A damaged vehicle carrying Sabarimala pilgrims stopped after hitting a crash barrier on the Erumeli–Mundakkayam road in Kannimala, with police and locals inspecting the accident site.

Kottayam: A vehicle carrying Sabarimala pilgrims from Tamil Nadu met with an accident at Kannimala on the Erumeli–Mundakkayam route early Monday morning. According to reports, the vehicle lost control while navigating the hilly road and rammed into a crash barrier.

Five devotees sustained minor injuries in the impact, and all are reportedly out of danger. The crash barrier prevented the vehicle from plunging further down the slope, averting what could have been a major disaster.

Local authorities and passersby rushed to the spot, ensuring immediate first aid and assistance. The accident comes amid the peak Mandala–Makaravilakku pilgrimage season, during which heavy traffic is reported on routes leading to Sabarimala.
