Severe Low-Pressure System to Intensify in 48 Hours; Yellow Alert Issued in Three Districts

Thiruvananthapuram: The Central Meteorological Department has warned that the ongoing rain across Kerala is likely to continue, with a yellow alert declared for several districts. A yellow alert has been issued for Thiruvananthapuram today, and for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, and Pathanamthitta districts tomorrow (26th). The department has cautioned of isolated heavy rainfall, defined as 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm within 24 hours.

A cyclonic circulation over the Kanyakumari Sea has strengthened into a depression spanning the Kanyakumari Sea, Sri Lanka, and the southwest Bay of Bengal. It is expected to move north-northwest and intensify further over the next 24 hours, with another phase of strengthening likely in the following 24 hours. Meanwhile, a system over Malaysia and the Strait of Malacca has already intensified into a depression and is forecast to strengthen as it moves west-northwest over the next 48 hours.

The Meteorological Department has also indicated the possibility of light to moderate rain across Kerala for the next five days, with isolated heavy showers expected on November 25 and 26. Fishermen have been strictly warned against venturing near the Kanyakumari coast under any circumstances.
