Ever since Jailer became a historic box-office blockbuster, fans have been eagerly waiting for its sequel. The 2023 Rajinikanth-starrer, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, revived the Superstar’s mass aura and went on to collect over ₹600 crore globally, becoming one of Kollywood’s biggest hits. Naturally, expectations for Jailer 2 are sky-high — especially among Malayalam fans, because of the potential involvement of Mohanlal.
Now, fresh reports have surfaced indicating that Mohanlal will soon join the movie’s shoot. According to an IANS report citing industry sources, Mohanlal’s schedule for the film has been finalised. He is expected to join the team tomorrow for a short one- or two-day shoot, after which he will return to the set again on December 21 and continue until December 24.
Interestingly, the production team has not yet officially confirmed Mohanlal’s presence in the sequel. However, Nelson’s recent visit to meet Mohanlal during the shooting of Hridayapurvam has fueled excitement among fans and added weight to the speculation.
Meanwhile, updates on the rest of the cast are equally intriguing. Vijay Sethupathi reportedly joined the Goa schedule of the film, and scenes involving him are currently being filmed. Yet, as with Mohanlal, the makers have not issued any formal confirmation regarding Sethupathi’s involvement.
Rajinikanth had previously announced that filming for Jailer 2 would be wrapped up by December. Shooting began on May 10 in Chennai, and the project continues to progress as planned.
Ramya Krishnan is set to reprise her role as Muthuvel Pandian’s wife, Vijaya Pandian (Viji), while Mirna will once again appear as Shweta Pandian, the daughter-in-law of Tiger Muthuvel Pandian. Music duties remain with Anirudh Ravichander, whose chart-topping soundtrack contributed heavily to the first film’s massive success.
With secrecy surrounding major cast announcements and excitement soaring, fans are eagerly waiting for official updates on what is shaping up to be one of the biggest sequels in South cinema.
