A tumultuous scene unfolded in Central London on Wednesday as several runaway military horses caused chaos, injuring four individuals before being corralled by police authorities.
Local reports confirmed that the stray animals, originally from the Household Cavalry of the British Army, went rogue during an exercise at the iconic Horse Guards Parade grounds. Witnesses recounted scenes of panic as the horses galloped through the city streets, prompting swift intervention from law enforcement.
In response to the escalating situation, the Westminster Police coordinated efforts with the army to locate and safely contain the rampaging horses. Following a concerted effort, all of the equine fugitives were successfully apprehended, bringing an end to the unexpected ordeal.
“We’re pleased to confirm that all of the horses have been accounted for. We are continuing to liaise with the Army,” reassured the Westminster Police in a social media update.
The commotion resulted in injuries to four individuals, necessitating their immediate transportation to a nearby hospital for treatment. Among the injured was a person reportedly thrown from a horse near Buckingham Palace Road, as confirmed by the London Ambulance Service.
Images and videos circulating on social media captured the chaotic scenes, with one particularly distressing footage showing a white horse, visibly injured and bleeding, traversing the city streets alongside its black companion.
Precautionary measures were swiftly enacted by law enforcement, with officers containing the two errant horses and making arrangements for their transfer to a veterinary facility for assessment and care.
As authorities work to restore order and ensure the well-being of both citizens and animals, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictable nature of urban life and the importance of effective emergency response protocols.
