Indian cricket star Smriti Mandhana received an unforgettable surprise when her fiancé, singer Palash Muchhal, proposed to her right in the middle of the pitch at DY Patil Stadium — the same ground where India lifted the Women’s World Cup trophy earlier this month.
In a heartwarming video shared by Palash, he is seen guiding a blindfolded Smriti to the centre of the stadium. When she removes the blindfold, she finds him down on one knee, holding out a ring. A visibly emotional Smriti says “yes,” prompting Palash to caption the video: “She said yes.”
Moments later, friends, family, and well-wishers rush onto the field to celebrate the special moment with the couple. Palash’s sister and well-known singer Palak Muchhal was also present for the celebration.
The couple is set to tie the knot on Sunday, November 23, and even Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his wishes in a warm congratulatory message.
Smriti later shared the news on social media through a fun reel featuring her World Cup-winning teammates, including Jemimah Rodrigues and Radha Yadav, proudly flashing her engagement ring.
Smriti and Palash have been in a long, steady relationship, choosing to keep their bond private while consistently supporting each other’s careers. Palash was also spotted cheering for Smriti during the Women’s World Cup final against South Africa.
Smriti Mandhana’s Stellar Form
The timing of the engagement couldn’t be sweeter. Smriti is enjoying one of the best phases of her cricketing career. As vice-captain under Harmanpreet Kaur, she topped India’s batting charts with a record 434 runs in nine innings — the highest by any Indian in a single Women’s World Cup. Her memorable century against New Zealand in a must-win game further cemented her legacy.
She finished as the tournament’s second-highest run scorer, just behind South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt.
Last year, Smriti also made history by becoming the first Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain to win the Women’s Premier League.
The proposal at the iconic stadium — where she recently scripted history — adds another unforgettable chapter to Smriti’s remarkable year, both on and off the field.
