Mumbai Police Free 17 Children After Hostage Crisis at Acting School
Mumbai Police successfully rescued 17 children and two adults from a terrifying hostage situation at an acting school in the city’s Powai area on Tuesday. The children were attending an audition when the suspect, identified as Rohit Arya, allegedly confined them inside the building.
According to officials, police initially attempted to negotiate with Arya, but when he refused to cooperate and continued making threats, officers launched a forced entry operation through a bathroom window to reach the hostages.
Inside the premises, police recovered an airgun and an unidentified chemical substance, though authorities have not yet confirmed its nature or potential risk.
During the rescue, the suspect was shot by police and later succumbed to his injuries in hospital, said Deputy Commissioner of Police Datta Nalawade.
The tense standoff triggered panic in the neighbourhood as parents and locals gathered outside the acting school, anxiously awaiting updates.
