Reports on iOS 18 indicate an upcoming ‘ambitious’ update packed with advanced AI features set to revolutionize Apple’s iPhone operating system. Expected to debut in late 2024, iOS 18 is projected to introduce innovative generative AI capabilities to iPhones, marking a significant leap forward in functionality.
According to Bloomberg, the development of iOS 18 briefly paused to address critical issues within iOS 17. However, Apple has now redirected its efforts to enhance iOS 18, aiming to incorporate generative AI elements, reminiscent of Google’s strides with Pixel smartphones.
Notably, the forthcoming iOS 18 update assumes heightened significance as the iPhone 16 hardware isn’t slated for major improvements over its predecessor, the iPhone 15. Cupertino intends to offset this hardware stagnation by offering a feature-rich software experience through iOS 18.
Beyond iOS 18, other Apple platforms such as iPadOS 18, watchOS 11, and macOS 15 are also anticipated to receive a slew of new features. This time, Apple is reportedly prioritizing quality to ensure a seamless and glitch-free user experience upon launch.
Apple’s software development reportedly follows distinct stages, starting with ‘M1,’ followed by subsequent versions like ‘M2.’ Four such milestones lead up to the unveiling of the new operating system at the annual WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference), typically hosted in June each year.
Following the rollout of iOS 17 in September, the update encountered several issues. In response, Apple has been actively addressing these concerns through software updates, tackling significant problems such as overheating in the iPhone 15 Pro series, NFC-related issues, and unexpected device restarts.
