1 killed after mob attacks 2 men for allegedly carrying beef in car in Nashik

Nasir Shaikh and Afan Abdul Majeed Ansari were travelling to Mumbai when they were stopped by a group of people for inspection. The group found what was alleged to be beef in their car and attacked them with sticks and rods. Afan later died in a hospital.

Two men were brutally beaten up by a mob in Maharashtra’s Nashik for allegedly carrying beef in their car, Maharashtra Police said on Monday. One of them later died due to the injuries sustained in the attack.

Nasir Shaikh and Afan Abdul Majeed Ansari were travelling to Mumbai on Saturday (June 24). While they were on the Sinnar Ghoti Highway, their car was stopped by a group of people for inspection.

The group allegedly found beef in the car during the inspection. Around 15 people then attacked the two with iron rods and sticks, causing serious injuries, the police said.

They were later taken to a hospital where Afan Abdul Majeed Ansari succumbed to his injuries.

A murder case has been registered.

In a similar incident in March, a 56-year-old man was allegedly lynched in Bihar’s Saran district on the suspicion that he was carrying beef.

Three people had been arrested for lynching the man, Naseem Quereshi, including a sarpanch Sushil Singh and villagers Ravi Sah and Ujjwal Sharma, according to reports.
