President Biden criticized Israeli PM Netanyahu for not doing enough to advance a hostage deal with Hamas, as he nears a final proposal.

Biden’s comments came as he nears the completion of a final proposal aimed at securing the release of these captives.

President Biden expressed dissatisfaction with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s efforts to secure a hostage deal with Hamas.

Biden’s dissatisfaction with Netanyahu follows the recent recovery of six deceased hostages from a tunnel in Gaza. Among the victims was Hersh Goldberg-Polin, a 23-year-old American-Israeli. The hostages were reportedly killed by Hamas militants shortly before their bodies were discovered.

The discovery of these hostages’ bodies has heightened domestic criticism of the Biden administration’s handling of the Gaza ceasefire and intensified calls for Netanyahu to secure the release of the remaining captives. The pressure has been mounting as the situation in Gaza continues to evolve.

When asked if Netanyahu was adequately addressing the hostage situation, Biden responded unequivocally, “No,” though he did not elaborate further. However, he expressed optimism that a final proposal could be presented to both parties within the week, stating, “We’re very close to that.”

Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were scheduled to meet with the US negotiating team on Monday to discuss ongoing efforts to finalize an agreement for the remaining hostages.

In Israel, protests have erupted for a second consecutive day, with the country’s largest trade union, Histadrut, initiating a general strike. The strike aims to pressure the Israeli government to secure a deal for the return of the hostages. The discovery of the six additional bodies has further fueled unrest, leading to significant disruptions in transportation and medical services across various districts.

The general strike has seen numerous shops and businesses close their doors, reflecting the widespread impact of the industrial action. Histadrut’s call for a stoppage highlights the growing frustration and urgency surrounding the hostage situation.

As both American and Israeli officials navigate this complex and sensitive issue, the international community watches closely for any developments that could lead to a resolution of the crisis.
