The Manipur government has imposed a mobile internet ban in five districts, effective for five days. This move aims to curb the spread of misinformation following last week’s drone attack.

1. An indefinite curfew has been implemented in both districts of Imphal. Despite this, over a thousand students continued their protests in the state capital for a second consecutive day.

2. The protests were met with tear gas and live firing by security forces, but students remained defiant, and a delegation has presented a six-point demand to the Governor.

3. The Centre has dispatched two additional battalions of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) to Manipur, increasing the troop presence by 2,000 in response to the ongoing violence.

4. All government and private educational institutions in Manipur have been closed until September 12 by the Higher and Technical Education Department.

5. Manipur University has postponed exams for undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Student protests have erupted in response to the exam postponements.

6. Joint operations by the army, Assam Rifles, and other security forces have led to the recovery of significant quantities of arms and ammunition across various districts.

7. State police chief IK Muviah indicated that evidence from the drone bombing case would be handed over to central investigative agencies for further probe. Fragments have been sent to forensic labs for analysis.

8. The ongoing ethnic conflict between the Imphal Valley-based Meiteis and the hill-based Kukis has resulted in over 200 deaths and thousands displaced since May last year.

9. The Meiteis seek inclusion under the Scheduled Tribes category, while the Kukis demand a separate administration due to perceived discrimination and unequal resource distribution.

10. Recent violence saw bombs dropped by drones and snipers targeting civilians, resulting in two deaths and ten injuries, including two policemen, a TV reporter, and a woman.
