In a major step towards strengthening strategic ties, India and the United States have signed a 10-year defence cooperation agreement aimed at enhancing military coordination, technology exchange, and regional security.

The agreement was finalized following a meeting between US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth and Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in Kuala Lumpur.

Announcing the deal on X (formerly Twitter), Hegseth said the pact would boost information sharing, defence collaboration, and regional deterrence, adding that it will play a key role in maintaining stability across the Indo-Pacific region.

The development comes at a time when both nations are navigating trade disputes, following US President Donald Trump’s decision to impose 50% tariffs on Indian exports, including a 25% penalty for India’s continued purchase of Russian oil and defence equipment.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh called the agreement a symbol of growing trust and cooperation between New Delhi and Washington.
